Our story began with the generosity and vision of John Lyon (1534-1592). His philanthropy established not only a school, but a tradition of giving that has shaped Harrow for more than four centuries.

From Old Schools in 1615 to the development of the sports fields in the 2000s and the opening of Lyon's, the twelfth boarding house in 2010, gifts from Old Harrovians, parents, beaks and friends of the School have transformed the Hill. Almost every building, classroom and playing field reflects the commitment of those who chose to give back.
Not only do these development projects and programmes improve the fabric and facilities of the School, but they enrich the life and education of the boy. This would not be possible without the great generosity of our benefactors, to whom we extend our profound thanks.

Following the School's 450th anniversary in 2022, we are steadfast in continuing the Governors' ambitious development programme, which celebrates 450 years of Harrow and will provide an abiding legacy for decades to come.

To ensure that Harrow continues to shape great men within its walls and grounds we have a duty to keep this rich culture of giving alive. In recent years, we have undertaken major renovation and construction projects, which include the new state-of-the-art Biology and Chemistry Schools, which opened at the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, as well as the complete renovation of the Shepherd Churchill Dining Hall, and Speech Room. These transformative and leading-edge development projects are made possible by your continuous support.
