The Borough Athletics Championships are held annually at Harrow and offer athletes the chance to be selected to compete in the County Championships. Following this year"s event on 11 May, over 30 Harrovians are expected to be invited to represent the Borough at Hillingdon later on this month.

On 5 May, the annual Achilles relays took place at Iffley Road Oxford, an athletics ground made famous when Roger Bannister ran the first four-minute mile there. This competition attracts nearly 30 schools each year and standards are very high. The Harrow squad were delighted to achieve two second places (one in a final) and two wins out of 13 races.

On Saturday 30 April, the athletics squad won the Guy Butler Shield for an eighth consecutive year, seeing off traditional rivals Eton and St Paul’s. All three age groups were closely contested with Harrow coming out on top in the Junior and Senior competitions. Harrovians also won individual trophies for the best Intermediate and Junior track athletes.

On 23 April, two Harrovian teams, comprising 83 boys, took on Abingdon, St Edward"s, Marlborough, Radley and Hampton School, the latter of which provided the strongest opposition. The Senior sprinters produced some very quick times on the day, with two clocking 10.7 for the 100m, while a Shell shot-putter smashed the Junior record by nearly a metre. His put of 14.02m is at national standard and would earn him a top-three ranking in England. Harrow was placed first overall in the competition, ahead of Hampton and Marlborough.
