Harrovian named Middlesex Cricket Player of the Year

Lower Sixth Former Rishi Wijeratne (The Head Master’s) has won Middlesex Cricket Club’s ‘Youth Player of the Year’ award.

Rishi began his professional career with Middlesex in their Under-Nine squad in 2011. This summer he scored 160+ for the Club on two separate outings, and also took part in the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) Super Fours Under-17 Competition at Loughborough University, playing for the England South team.

In 2017, Rishi was selected to play for the London and East Team at the prestigious national Bunbury Festival and received two awards from the ECB: Best Batsman and Most Valuable Player. He was also awarded the Gray-Nicholls ESCA Trophy for the most improved schoolboy cricketer. Over the last 40 years, 14 recipients of this award have gone on to play for England.

In March of this year, Rishi received The Cricket Society’s Sir John Hobbs Silver Jubilee Prize for being the most outstanding under-16 schoolboy cricketer in England for 2017.

The presentation of his latest accolade took place at the Middlesex End of Season Lunch and Players Awards at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
