End-of-Term Music

Several Harrovians were involved in musical performances over the weekend. The Big Band gave a summer concert on Saturday night and there was a piano concert in Speech Room on Sunday afternoon.

On Tuesday 18 June, the final lunch-hour concert of this term will feature Music for Percussion, in the Music Schools. The Music Prize Finals take place on Wednesday 19 June, and the adjudicator will be Mrs Susan Bloor, Director of Music at Foremarke Hall. On the evening of Friday 21 June, the New Directions (contemporary music) Concert will feature music by Latvian composer Peteris Vasks. The Byron Consort, Harrow's elite singing ensemble, will sing some of Vasks’ Choral Music, and the Head of String and the String Orchestra will perform the Violin Concerto Tala Gaisma (‘Distant Light’), at 7.30pm in Speech Room. On afternoon the afternoon of Sunday 23 June, there will be a Shell Award Holders Concert in the Music Schools at 5.30pm.

Most musicians at Harrow are involved in ensemble work through choirs, bands and orchestras; there are more than 80 concerts and productions each year, with many solo performance opportunities. The Music department aims to raise the best musicians to a very high standard, whilst also involving every boy in enjoyable musical activity.
