US university applications

Harrovians who applied in the early round to US universities this year received some extremely impressive offers over the Christmas holidays. In total, twelve early offers were received which included places at Harvard, Yale, UPenn, Dartmouth, Brown, Duke, Georgetown, NYU and Santa Clara. Additionally, two offers were received from Canadian universities: The University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario.

Academic and Universities Director, Charles Bailey, said: "We are absolutely delighted with these outcomes, which are testament to the hard work of the boys; I am proud of their commitment and the support given to them from our North American Universities Team."

A dedicated team at Harrow leads the US university application process which has several aspects to it including standardised tests (ACT/SAT) and college essays. Boys at Harrow who are applying to US universities can take special ACT lessons in Maths and English, as well as receive ACT/SAT preparation. Boarding life means this can be spread over the timetable and at weekends.

Applications are overseen by Harrow’s Master-in-Charge of North American Universities and supported by the School’s specialist US Universities Advisor. In the last two years, Harrow has run trips to the East Coast and West Coast respectively to visit US universities.
