A group of Harrovians travelled to Kazakhstan during the half term break to spend time absorbing the country's culture and history and practising Russian as well as trying to learn some basic Kazakh. The trip was the first stage of the language and cultural exchange programme with our partner Nurorda School-Lyceum, some of whose pupils will be visiting Harrow School in March 2025.
After morning language lessons and cultural activities devoted to both Kazakh and Russian culture, the boys enjoyed visits to key tourist attractions in and near Astana, including ALZHIR - Stalin's Akmola camp for the "wives of traitors to the motherland".
The group also met Kathy Leach, UK Ambassador to Kazakhstan, visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and toured the Khabar TV channel studios, where some of the boys were interviewed for their morning programme.
