International Day of Commemoration

Boys observed a minute's silence in Speech Room to mark the International Day of Commemoration of Victims of the Holocaust.

Events are taking place across the School this week as we reflect on the horror of genocide.

In an address, the Head Master told Harrovians: "Today we mark International Day of Commemoration of Victims of the Holocaust. January 27 is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and is the day we remember the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered during the Holocaust, and millions more people murdered through the Nazi persecution of other groups.

"It is also a day to learn about, and consider the implications of other genocides: Rwanda, Bosnia, Cambodia, Darfur, Yazidis, the Holodomor, the Armenian genocide and the Albigensian Crusade. Facing up to and thinking about these episodes, the lowest and most hideous in human history, is important for every generation, never more so than in 2026."
