The Archive
The Archive locates, collects and preserves all kinds of records relating to the School's history, making them available for research. The collection contains material dating from before the School was founded in the 1570s to the present day, and reflects its organisation and development.
Physical Holdings
- Governors’ minutes and account books from 1608
- School lists from 1770, including the Register and Bill Books
- Literary and autograph material, including items relating to Sheridan, Trollope and Byron
- Architectural drawings and plans of School property.
- Publications, books, clippings, prints, artwork and audiovisual material
- Photographs of pupils, Masters and staff, teams, House groups, School buildings and views of the local area from 1850
- Head Masters’ and Masters’ records from 1800
- Estate documents from the 14th century
- Personal papers from former pupils and staff
- Clothing, trophies and other memorabilia

- Harrow Families (a record of families of which three or more generations attended Harrow)
- The School's World War One Memorial Website
- Contio (an annual address given by the Head of School)

Enquiries and Visits
The Archive is open from 9.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, by appointment only. Please send enquiries by email to the Archivist, with as much background information as possible. As the School receives many enquiries, it may take time to carry out research and we may have to limit the time we spend on a particular request. Access to the Archive is at the discretion of the School and certain records are closed for a set period of time, due to confidentiality and data protection legislation.
Donations and Volunteers
The Archive is delighted to accept donations of documents, artefacts and photographs that are connected to the School and worthy of permanent preservation. Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact the Archivist.
