The Grove Campaign

The Grove, founded in 1820, is one of the oldest and most beautiful Houses at Harrow. In December 2016, the Harrow Governors approved a project for its renovation. The plan is to extensively remodel the existing House and to construct an extension to the north side of the building.

A campaign is underway to raise £2 - £3 million to fund this project, which will deliver:

  • New Common Rooms and light, spacious communal areas.
  • A substantial new boys' entrance.
  • A new Tutor's room for one-to-one teaching support.
  • Fit-for-purpose accommodation for the Assistant House Master and the Matron.

Contributions are being received at all levels from those with ties to the House: Old Grovites, current and past parents, and friends. It is heartening to see participation coming from such a broad base and every gift makes a difference, regardless of amount.

Project Update - January 2019

  • Work commenced April 2018.
  • The pace of the project increased markedly over the Christmas break and we remain on track to complete as planned.
  • The steel frame and reinforced concrete floors within the extension footprint are complete and works to construct the external walls will begin in January.
  • A Victorian Cistern was unexpectedly discovered earlier in the programme (previously hidden three metres beneath an external staircase). This was removed to excavate and lay foundations for the new extension.
  • This did cause a delay; however, the project has regained momentum and are confident that the boys will return to a completed extension / renovation in September 2019.
  • View more about about the project in the Harrow-School-The-Grove-Presentation.pdf
  • Work is expected to be completed in August 2019.

This much-needed renovation will make such a difference to the day-to-day lives of the boys. Furthermore, it will be a magnificent way for us all to celebrate  The Grove’s 200th anniversary in 2020.
