Shaftesbury Enterprise encompasses all of Harrow’s philanthropic, charitable, outreach and partnership work. Through this initiative, boys engage purposefully and genuinely with the local community, in the spirit of the 19th-century reformer, philanthropist and Old Harrovian, the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury.
This year, for example, over 80 boys have helped in Primary Schools with the reading programme. Partner schools visit our Library for workshops and teachers say they have noticed an improvement in reading across all levels. Boys have developed leadership and teaching skills, and have formed positive working relationships with the primary school pupils who look forward to their visits.
Karen Jones, Deputy Headteacher, Vaughan Primary School, said, "The Reading Project has again been a resounding success with a record number of students from Harrow School giving of their time to support a range of pupils."
