The final of this year’s prestigious Verney Prize for Argument took place on the Wednesday before half term.

Long Hei Ng (Newlands), Eugene Kim (West Acre) and Monty Powell (The Grove) all put forward arguments in answer to the question ‘What is it for someone to be a good person? Is it more a matter of what they do or of what they feel?’. The adjudicator, Professor David Mitchell from the New College of the Humanities, commended all three finalists for their arguments and the efforts that they all put in into preparing for the final round.

In the end, Professor Mitchell announced Long Hei as the winner of this year’s Verney Prize. He noted the originality of Long Hei’s argument and the enthusiasm with which Long Hei delivered his argument.
