Lyon"s Performs "The Birds" by Aristophanes

As the final House play of the year, Lyon’s performed The Birds by Aristophanes. Aerial ambitions, swooping black puppets, music and mime were all incorporated into Lyon’s performance of one of the Ancient Greek comedies. The play tells the story of two Athenians who employ the services of their city’s aerial inhabitants in an attempt to usurp the complacent pantheon of Olympian gods. With a sizeable cast directed by Harrow's Director in Residence, Lyon’s production of The Birds propelled Aristophanes’ satire into the 21st century, using an improvised script to realise vividly this ancient – yet still relevant – interrogation of utopia.
