From the Head Master
Harrow is one of Britain's leading independent schools, one of a very few schools still specialising in providing a high quality boarding school education for boys.
If you were to ask a Harrow parent why they chose us for their son, they would tell you that pupils here seem particularly happy and balanced, because of the high quality of pastoral care, and because we succeed in combining academic excellence with an outstanding range of opportunities beyond the classroom.
The range of academic ability at Harrow is from good to excellent. At the top we take a large number of very bright pupils and our record of admissions to Oxford and Cambridge and top universities in America is good. We also take pupils who score little more than 55% at Common Entrance; nevertheless, virtually all such pupils go on to achieve good A-levels and a university place as well as achieving outstanding results in other areas of School life, notably music, drama and sport. Whatever their level of ability, Harrow inspires boys to develop their talents and reach for excellence in everything they do.
But getting pupils through exams is not the most important thing about education. As we have done for centuries, Harrow prepares pupils for a life of leadership, service and personal fulfilment. We promote independence of thought, respect for others, creativity, and a sense of responsibility for one's own actions, and for the good of society. All are important for life beyond school and university.
I look for a number of qualities in a school - high expectations of pupils; teachers who are enthusiastic about their subject; House Masters who are dedicated to the task of ensuring their pupils are happy and successful; the best quality facilities; a good level of discipline; care for every individual. You will find all these at Harrow.
I hope you will wish to visit the School and see for yourself what we can offer your son.
