Aims and philosophy

Any boy with an interest in astronomy is encouraged to study this outside lessons with a view to achieving GCSE in two years of self-study guided by one of our Physics Masters.

Curriculum: GCSE only

In the Remove year the emphasis is on studying the Earth-Moon system, the Sun and the Solar System. In the Fifth Form we look into the processes involved in the creation of stars and galaxies, cosmological theories and observational techniques. Coursework accounts for 25% of the total marks.

Outside the classroom

Several evening or night-time viewings are arranged using the School's 10-inch reflecting telescope.
