Congratulations in 2010 to...

August

  • Takehiro Fujita and Clement Woo on being two of the eighteen top mathematicians in the UK who have been invited to join the UK Maths Olympiad training camp in Oxford this month.
  • Michael Doughty on being called up to the Welsh U19 football squad.
  • Felix Lashmar on appearing on television playing in the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall as lead double bass in the National Youth Orchestra.
  • The four boys who achieved five A*s at A-level, and the seven boys who achieved four A*s.

  • Sam Gillot on winning a place in the National Schools Symphony Orchestra.

June

  • Harrow's swimming team on retaining the Bath Cup and coming second in the Otter Cup
  • Stanley Shillington on being selected to play for the Scotland U18 cricket team.

April

  • Congratulations to the boys in the Fifth Form & Remove who recently entered the British Physics Olympiad Physics Challenge. Philip Leung and Clement Woo achieved Gold awards while Angus Rolland and Rory Maclean achieved Silver. Seven other boys achieved Bronze awards...
  • …and to the boys in the Lower Sixth who entered the British Physics Olympiad AS Competition. Kirby Lam achieved a Gold award, Richard Chen and Jack Hou got a Silver and five other boys won a Bronze award.

March

  • Michael Doughty on gaining a place in the England U18 independent schools soccer team.
  • Alistair Bone on representing England in the U16 rugby team and training with the U18s.
  • Billy Vunipola on representing England in the U18 rugby team.
  • Matthew Zhao, Clement Woo, Takehiro Fujita and Jack Hou on winning the Regional Final of the National Senior Team Maths Competition (out of 28 schools including Eton), and in the National Final finishing 6th out of 70 schools who were Regional Finals winners. Nearly 1000 schools took part nationwide.
  • the Harrow Maths team on beating Claremont High School and then Haberdashers’ Aske’s in the Quarter-finals of the Hans-Woyda (London and South East schools) Maths tournament . Harrow faces Westminster in the Semi-finals.
  • six boys on achieving a distinction in the Maths Olympiad, Harrow's best result ever.
  • Harrow's chemists who won four Gold certificates in the Chemistry Olympiad Round 1, and especially to Kirby Lam who was in the top 10 of Lower Sixth students in the UK. Harrow also got 9 Silver and 7 Bronze certificates.
  • Lalit Bose and Angus Gillams who came back from a perilous position of 2 games to 1 down and 12-11 down in the 4th game of the Final to win the Peter Gray Cup (Under 15s) by 3 games to 2. This is Lalit's second succes having won the Jim Dear Cup in the Singles Championships at Queen's at Christmas.

  • Gareth Thomas on being offered a conditional place to read Music, with a Choral Scholarship, at Jesus College, Cambridge
  • Elliot Smith on being offered a conditional place to read Chemistry, with a Choral Scholarship, at University College, Oxford

December

  • Daniel Lewis and Shrai Popat on gaining places in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

November

  • Stanley Shillington on being selected for trials for the Scotland U18 cricket squad held in Edinburgh in November.
  • Felix Lashmar on successfully re-auditioning for the National Youth Orchestra for next season and being appointed Principal Double Bass.
  • Peter Ashton on being the joint winner of the Cambridge University Sociological Essay Competition. His essay on the Decline of Social Capital wins him £300 and the School £200 to spend on sociology books for the Vaughan Library.

October

  • Robbie White on being awarded The Wisden Cricketer Magazine Player of the Year 2009 title for his achievements in the 2009 cricket season at his prep school. He made five hundreds for Edge Grove Prep School, and two further hundreds for the Middlesex Under-13 team. He was invited for trials for the South of England Under-15 squad. He was also the magazine's Gunn & Moore Player of the Month for November.
  • Michael Doughty who has been selected to represent ISFA England South U18 for the match against Essex Schools on Sunday 15th November...
  • ...and to Chester Robinson who has been selected to represent ISFA England South U16 for the match against Kent Schools on the same date. Hamish MacIntyre has been selected as a reserve.  

September

  • Daniel Hallstrom on winning First Prize in the Rosalind Franklin Science Essay Competition run by University College London.
  • Dominic Wong on being offered (conditional on A-level grades) the Organ Scholarship to Downing College, Cambridge for 2011 with a place to read Law.
  • Edwin Lee on being offered (conditional on A-level grades) the Organ Scholarship to Robinson College, Cambridge for 2010 with a place to read Music.

August

  • four pupils on achieving six A grades in their A-levels. They were James Eyton, Solomon Lau, Paddy Orchard and Jason Choi.
  • the eight Harrovians who got five A grades at A-level, and the twenty-three boys who got four A grades.
  • Charles Jenkinson and Abeku Nelson on achieving 13 A* grades at GCSE. Charles also got an A grade in a further GCSE, bringing his total to 13 A*s and 1 A!
  • James Griffiths on achieving 12 A* grades and 1 A grade at GCSE, while Oludolapo Akinkugbe, Diego de Armas, Hyun Kim, Kyriacos Pittalis and George Poulston all achieved 12 A*s.

July

  • Chad Lambert on breaking a 33-year-old School record, and finishing 11th out of 18 in the 1500m event at the English Schools Championships (athletics), in a time of 3mins 56.8secs.
  • Ollie Squires on finishing in 9th place in the U20 javelin competition in the English Schools Championships. These results are truly outstanding, as they were achieved against the top performers in England.

June

  • Anton Thompson-McCormick on winning a place with the National Youth Theatre, Britain’s premier youth theatre company.

May

  • the ten pupils in the Remove year on their achievements in the Biology Challenge Competition, a competition for pupils in Year 9 & 10 run by the British Biology Olympiad organisation. Gold Awards were received by Henry Ferrari, Ben Ingledow, Rory Maclean; a Silver Award went to Seb Gillot, and Bronze to Clement Woo. Takehiro Fujita, Richard Cooke, Harry Houghton, David Leonard, Benedict Tse were Highly Commended.
  • Felix Lashmar to whom the Associated Board has awarded a Silver Medal for gaining the second highest mark in the country for Grade 8 Cello.
  • Takehiro Fujita who came 17th in the UK in the Intermediate UK Maths Olympiad and Clement Woo who came 28th despite being amongst the youngest competitors.

April

  • Angus Aitken, Charlie Griffiths and Charlie Henderson-Russell on running and completing the London Marathon.

March

  • Teddy Chadd on reaching the Final of the National Science Competition in March. He was one of 183 finalists from a field of over 22,000!

February

  • Callum Stidston-Nott on being selected to play for the Scotland Under-19 rugby team against Italy on 28 February in Edinburgh and against France in Paris in March.
  • Tim Hillgarth on coming second in the Under-18 National Fencing Championships in the foil competition.
  • Michael Doughty on being selected to play for the ISFA Under-16 team against Wales.
  • Felix Lashmar on winning a place at the first attempt with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. The much sought-after and highly prestigious places are offered after a demanding audition process, in which Felix’s skills on the double bass – the first of his four instruments – clearly impressed the NYO Director Sarah Alexander and the double bass tutor, Duncan McTier. The performance schedule includes concerts at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Symphony Hall in Birmingham, The Roundhouse, and culminates in an appearance at the BBC Proms. The orchestra consists of up to 160 players, with a double bass section of twelve.
  • Kyle and Connor Barrett on recording British National Qualifying times at the Dutch Short Course Nationals held in Amsterdam. Both boys will compete at the British trials in March.
  • The Senior and Junior swimming teams on delivering the best performance ever by Harrow swimmers at a national competition. Harrow travelled to Gloucester to compete in the National Secondary Schools Team Championships, and won three Bronze medals.
  • Jack Richardson on representing England at polo in a match against South East Asia, in Thailand.
  • Teddy Chadd on reaching the Final of the National Science Competition to be held in March.

  • Tim Hillgarth on reaching the Final of the Under-18 London Regional Fencing Championships. He was narrowly beaten in the Final by one point. 

October

  • Gibra’el Teja on qualifying to compete in the All-Africa Tennis Masters Championships in the ‘14 & Under’ category. He has attained a Top 7 ranking in his age grouping in the whole of Africa where only the top 8 are invited to this highly regarded championship (likened to a Grand Slam tournament for aspiring tennis players).

September

  • Michael Doughty and William Bamford on being selected for the final squad (of just fifteen boys) to represent England in the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) South team at U16 level. They will play one match against a county side before the big game against England ISFA North...
  • ...and to Tom Pearson-Jones who has been chosen as a reserve for the ISFA U18 group.

August

  • Russell Kueh on scoring one of the top five marks in A-level Economics and in A-level Statistics (AQA).
  • Ivan Hunter Gordon on scoring one of the top ten marks out of 6,535 entries in his AS-level Art examination.
  • Bazil Azmil-Vaikunthan, Alex Cottrell and Sam Stirrat on scoring one of the top ten marks out of 5,096 entries for A-level Art.
  • Tom Batting and Benji Sewell on scoring one of the top ten marks in their Photography A-level examination, out of 3,036 entries.
  • Henry Ashwell and Joon Kwon on scoring a top ten mark in GCSE Astronomy.
  • Ilias Vougioukas on scoring one of the top ten marks GCSE Modern Greek.

May

  • Alex Durgan on being offered both a Deloittes Scholarship and an Accenture gap year placement, to Josh Roberts on being offered a Deloittes Scholarship and to Baxter Macaulay on being offered an Accenture gap year placement. Deloittes is a top firm of Accountants and Management Consultants, and Accenture is a globally known firm of Management Consultants.

April

  • Harrow’s U15 relay team, Reiss Palmer, Chester Robinson, Oliver Huband and Oliver Morley-Fletcher, on breaking the 28-year-old record in the U15 Medley Relay race at the Oxford City Relays. The team broke records in both their races with the highlight being breaking the U15 Medley Relay record which had stood since 1980.
  • Clement Woo and Takehiro Fujita on finishing in the top fifty in the country in the British Mathematics Olympiad competition, and Tony Sun and James Lo on making the top 100 in the country in the same competition.
  • Alistair Bone on playing for the England U16 rugby squad against France, Wales and the USA early this year.
  • David Stodel on playing for Middlesex and trialling for the London & South East squad.
  • Tom Bassett and Alex Loftus on being chosen to train with the Saracens Academy Elite Performance Development Group in the Christmas holidays.
  • Nine players from the Yearlings A team (Shell yeargroup) on being picked for the Middlesex U14 team. They are Benjie Haston, Spencer Myers, Jake Hyman, Emeka Ilogu, Hugo Armstrong, Olivier Huband, Alex Peers and Chester Robinson.

March

  • Hugh Bayley on coming fifth in the Under 15 competition at the Middlesex Cross-Country Championship and on being selected for the Middlesex team going to the English Schools Championships.
  • Tim Hillgarth on coming 36th in the world in the International U17 Fencing Championships.
  • Chad Lambert on winning the U17 Middlesex Cross-Country Championship.
  • Harrow's 1st XI hockey team on winning the Middlesex U18 hockey championship.

February

  • Alistair Bone on being selected for the England U16 rugby squad. 

January

  • Will Matthews on winning a Bronze medal in the Slalom event at the International School Boys Races held in Meringen, Switzerland. The boys who got Gold and Silver ski for England.
