Sub-Aqua Club

The Sub-Aqua Club is open to boys in the Fifth Form and above; the age restriction is due to the potentially more challenging conditions of UK diving. The Club trains novice divers under the PADI system of education, from first certification Open Water Diver, up to Dive Master or Master Scuba Diver level. Boys have in the past used the Club to qualify before embarking on their GAP year expeditions, in order to take full advantage of their time overseas in countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and Australia. Much of the theoretical part of the course is undertaken by independent study, with supplied academic materials, followed by tutorials, examinations, and confined practical training in the pool. Qualifying dives are normally carried out in Gildenberg or Stoney Cove quarries. The course may form part of a DoE award. Boys may sign up for an Open Water course in January.
